Items to be considered at the January Council meeting

A reminder the City of Greater Bendigo’s January Council meeting will be held at The Capital theatre in the Bendigo Bank Theatre, due to recent flooding in the Bendigo Town Hall. 

A public gallery can still be accommodated and questions without notice will return, however people are still encouraged to register their questions to ensure they can receive an answer at the meeting.

People no longer need to register or show ID when they attend a Council meeting, however registration is still encouraged to ensure there is enough space for everyone. 

Items to be considered at the meeting include:

  • An updated Waste Charges Policy, which includes a recommendation that ratepayers with a medical exemption be able to upsize to a 240L general waste bin at no charge. It is also recommended both ratepayers with a medical exemption and private businesses that operate from residential properties and generate excess nappies or incontinence products have the option to opt out of the City’s general waste collection in favour of arranging their own waste collection service through a business that can take away their waste more frequently. 
  • A recommendation to defer a decision on updating planning conditions for a planning permit belonging to Marist College Bendigo (Agenda item 16.3). At the December 2023 Council meeting, it was agreed to defer the matter to the January 2024 meeting. Since the December Council meeting, City staff have been meeting with community representatives and relevant agencies. It is recommended this liaison work continue until the application is ready for resubmission to Council.
  • A planning application for a new fast-food restaurant on the corner of High Street and Violet Street in central Bendigo, the site of the former Pizza Hut. The development would deliver a Guzman Y Gomez franchise. It is recommended the application be supported. 

The next Council meeting will be held on Monday January 29 and livestreamed via the City’s website and broadcast on Phoenix FM 106.7.
