The City of Greater Bendigo is delighted to announce the opening of the 2024 Knuldoorong Art Exhibition this Friday July 5, featuring works from 25 First Nations artists and creatives.
The Knuldoorong Art Exhibition is one of the first major highlights for NAIDOC Week celebrations in Greater Bendigo.
This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud, resonates through the vibrant and dynamic works of the local First Nations artists and creatives who have contributed to the exhibition.
The free Knuldoorong exhibition showcases a range of artworks and pieces including paintings, weaving and jewellery.
All artworks will be available for purchase although items will remain on display in Dudley House until the exhibition ends.
The creatives live in or have strong connections to the region, and they also accept individual commissions from residents and visitors (contact details are available).
For the past eight years, the Knuldoorong Art Exhibition has been a cornerstone of the NAIDOC Week celebrations taking place in Dudley House. Prior to this, it was hosted in various venues, managed by a team of dedicated volunteers.
The City’s Arts Officer First Nations Janet Bromley has worked closely with community stakeholders to ensure the exhibition’s place as a permanent fixture in the Dudley House calendar.
Ms Bromley said Knuldoorong was an important way to bring together First Nations artists and creatives who specialise in a variety of disciplines.
“NAIDOC celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the Knuldoorong Art Exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for First Nations artists to showcase and share their artworks and culture with the wider community to help develop greater understanding,” Ms Bromley said.
“Works can be bought directly from the artists, so this is a great way to provide support to First Nations artists living and working in central Victoria.”
The Knuldoorong Art Exhibition will be open to the public from Friday July 5 to Sunday July 14. The opening hours are: 11am to 5pm on Friday July 5 to Saturday July 13, and 11am to 2pm on Sunday July 14.
