City Centre business attraction
The City of Greater Bendigo is actively working to attract new business and private investment into the city centre.
There are currently three live hotel planning applications for the city centre, including a site for sale fronting onto Hargreaves Mall with planning permit approval.
The City has an active Economic Development unit that is engaging with national retailers to introduce them to the Bendigo market and advocating to the Victorian Government to facilitate introductions to key retailers.
At the same time, the City has invested in activation through events to draw people into the city centre and has invested in improving the public realm by installing new landscaping and public art.
Bendigo Airport business park
The Bendigo Airport precinct has recently undergone a significant transformation.
The project has prepared the airport for future growth, including an expanded terminal building and delivery of nine initial business park lots.
Bendigo Airport is currently engaging with airlines to attract flights to new destinations and the business park lots are ready for private investment.
Bendigo Livestock Exchange roof development
The Bendigo Livestock Exchange (BLE) has a throughput of approximately one million sheep and lambs that generate an estimated $190M in livestock sales to the Victorian economy annually. It contributes an estimated annual output of $26.5M, supports 86 jobs (44 direct and 42 indirect) and a value add (direct contribution to GRP) of $13.7M to the regional economy.
Given the climate in central Victoria, it is desirable to have shelter for the animals in holding facilities, the BLE is the last of regional Victoria’s four main saleyards to be without a roof. Additionally, infrastructure of this scale presents an opportunity for added benefits such as solar power generation and water harvesting.
Total project cost - $12.9M
- Australian Government - $4M
- Victorian Government - $6M
- City of Greater Bendigo - $2.9M
