Expressions of interests are open for street artists to create a new mural as part of Fiesta Bendigo, celebrating an icon campaign.
About this project
The City of Greater Bendigo is committed to providing opportunities for artists to create artworks in the public realm. We are inviting expressions of interests from street artists to create a new mural as part of Bendigo Tourism's 'Fiesta Bendigo, celebrating an icon' destination campaign 2025 to celebrate the Bendigo Art Gallery's Frida Kahlo exhibition.
- Artists living in Victoria are eligible
- Artists of Latin American communities are strongly encouraged to apply
Project details
Artists may propose an original artwork that best demonstrates their culture and/or creative practice, talent and skill. Artworks must be suitable for display in a public realm and not likely to cause offence. We are interested in artworks that strongly align with the Fiesta theme such as floral, patterns, motifs, bright and bold colours.
Chancery Lane is located opposite the Bendigo Visitor Centre and runs between Pall Mall and Hargreaves Street within Greater Bendigo's City Centre. Chancery Lane hosts an eclectic mix of food, fashion and art and is one of Bendigo's most endearing laneways. The artwork will be installed at the Hargreaves Street end of Chancery Lane. Prior to installation, the walls will be cleaned and undercoated ready for the new artwork.
The artwork dimensions are approximately 18 metre length x 2.5 metre height.
The selected artist will be responsible for the installation of their work and must be suitably qualified and experienced. The Creative City Operations Officer will develop a risk management plan to ensure the safety of pedestrians and visitors within the precinct, and to limit disruption to traders located in Chancery Lane. The selected artist will be required to have public liability insurance and any other relevant permits before commencing work.
As part of this project, the selected artist is required to facilitate a workshop for locally based, emerging street artists. This may be an exploration of the themes of their work (especially as they relate to the Fiesta theme), or a skills workshop.
The City will work with the artist to promote this event and manage registrations.
The artist will be paid a total fee of $10,000 (inclusive of GST). This fee will cover artist/s payment, all materials, workshop, insurances and any other costs travel and accommodation.
