Supporting the inclusion and participation of children aged 0-12 in Greater Bendigo, through programs, events and activities that empower them to act as active and engaged citizens and share their unique perspective with their communities.
Early Years events
Each year the City hosts two early years events and partners with community to plan and deliver three other events.
Dates for the 2026 calendar include:
- February 15 - Huntly Family Fun Day, Strauch Recreation Reserve, Huntly
- March 17 - Play in the Garden Day, Garden for the Future, White Hills
- May 24 - Kangaroo Flat Family Fun Day, Kangaroo Flat Primary School
- October 24 - FunLoong Fun Day, Hargreaves Mall, Bendigo
- November 26 - Eaglehawk Childrenβs Festival, Canterbury Gardens, Eaglehawk
VicHealth Local Government Partnership
The City is a VicHealth Local Government partner engaging children and young people in Greater Bendigo to help create change at a local level. Led by the voice of children this initiative provides better access to healthy food and drink options, increasing physical activity and building more opportunities for social connection.
Current initiatives
Healthy Eating: In collaboration with FoodShare and Bendigo Community Health Services, the City is partnering with three local schools to deliver food education and hands-on cooking experiences. This initiative aims to strengthen food literacy and address food insecurity within our community.
Escape the Vape: Working across Central Goldfields Shire, Macedon Ranges Shire, Mt Alexander Shire and City of Greater Bendigo this initiative is providing awareness of the harms of vaping in local primary schools.
Smoking Vaping Signage: Providing an opportunity for local sporting clubs to access free smoking vaping signage to help create a healthier, smoke and vape free environment for our community.
