Medical exemption for general waste

Residents with medical conditions that generate excess waste are able to apply for a medical exemption which provides an upsize to a 240lt bin at no charge. 

Applications need to provide a letter from a general practitioner or specialist advising that the fortnightly kerbside collection of general waste is not suitable for their needs for their application to be approved.

Order an additional bin

If you need an extra kerbside waste bin, the request needs to be made by the property owner or the authorised real estate agent for the property. They will need to accept the additional service charges on the property rates.

Once your request has been submitted and processed, an officer will attend the nominated property within 1-10 working days to allocate the additional bin/s.

Organics bin exemption

If you already manage food and garden material on your property, you can apply for an exemption from our organics collection.

You need to demonstrate how you manage all organic material effectively on the property. We will ask you what happens to your food scraps, leftover cooked and uncooked food, and garden waste. 

We accept a combination of composting, worm farm, mulching machinery, household animals, or using a private contractor or gardener.

  • If your organics management systems meet our criteria and your property is less than 1 hectare in size, we will contact you within 10 working days to arrange to visit.
     
  • If your property is over 1 hectare or 2 ½ acres, please include photos of all management systems you have listed in your application.  Where possible, please make sure the photos clearly show that the systems are in use. For example, if you have listed that you use a compost bin of some kind, we need to see compost inside the compost bin to know it is being used to compost your food scraps. Applications submitted without sufficient supporting photos will not be processed.

Please note, organics services that commenced in November 2023 as part of the rural collection service will not have their applications processed until May 2024.
 

Report a missed bin

To ensure your bin is emptied on collection day, please:

  • Have bins out by 6am
  • Place the bins with the wheels facing away from the kerb
  • Keep at least 50 cm between bins or other objects
  • Make sure the bins weigh no more than 60kg
  • Make sure the lid is closed

Once your request has been submitted and processed, we will contact you to advise when the collection truck will return, please ensure you leave your bin kerbside and that you add your contact details to your online request form.

Request a larger or smaller bin

To ask for a larger or smaller bin, the property owner or authorised real estate agent needs to make the request and accept the adjusted services charge to the property rates.

Once your request has been submitted and processed, an officer will normally attend the nominated property within 1-10 working days to swap the bin. Please place the bin in an easy to access location near the front of the property boundary so that it can be seen. Where possible please try to keep your bin empty until it has been attended to.

Request a replacement bin

We will replace a missing or stolen bin, but can only supply you with the same sized bin as listed on the property’s rates.

Request bin repairs

You can request repair or replacement of your damaged City of Greater Bendigo issued rubbish, recycling and or organics bin.

Once your request has been submitted and processed, an officer will normally attend the nominated property within 1-10 working days to repair or replace your bin. Please make sure you leave your bin in an easy to access location near the front of your property boundary so that it can be seen. Where possible please try to keep your bin empty until it has been attended to.

Request organics bin liners and/or kitchen caddy

Additional compostable caddy liners and/or a replacement caddy can be obtained free of charge (limits apply) by phoning Customer Service or by ordering online.

Once your request has been submitted and processed, an officer will normally attend the nominated property within 1-10 working days to deliver your organics caddy liners and/or caddy.
