Community members, organisations and services come together each year to raise awareness and promote respect. Preventing violence against women is a shared responsibility all year round.

About the 16 Days

The 16 Days of Activism is a global campaign that raises awareness of violence against women and encourages individuals, communities and organisations to take action.

It highlights the role we all play in challenging harmful attitudes and promoting respect and equality.

The campaign runs each year from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).

How to get involved

There are many ways to support the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. We'll be sharing local events, activities and practical actions that help create a safer, more equal and respectful community.

Our 16 Ways for the 16 Days campaign and events calendar will be available here in early November.

If your organisation or community group is planning an event, activity or initiative during the 16 Days, let us know. We welcome opportunities to promote local action and may be able to include your event in the community calendar.

Other ways to get involved

Go orange

Orange is the global colour of the 16 Days of Activism campaign. When you go orange, you help raise awareness, show your commitment to ending violence against women, and encourage others to be part of the conversation.

You can:

  • wear orange
  • paint your nails orange
  • light your building orange
  • decorate your workplace or shopfront

Every orange display is a visible reminder that preventing violence against women is everyone's responsibility. It can spark conversations about respect, equality and the role we all play in creating safer communities.

Community grants

Community groups and organisations can apply for 16 Days of Activism grants to support local events and initiatives.

Applications open each year in May and close at the end of the month.
